Rapping Legalists
Here’s a funny video that will illustrate the fact that the really “cool” churches out there are legalistic. I made the point to our small group last night that everyone is naturally a legalist. Conservative Christians and Fundamentalist Christians get a bad rap for being legalists when, in reality, I think a lot of the seeker-sensitive churches are more legalist than some fundamentalists. They just pick and choose their own righteousness (which is the essence of legalism).
Laugh, then be sad.

Was your use of the term “bad rap” intentional?

I think it’s also ironic how the Emergent-social-justice-Rob-Bell-neo-liberal crowd does the very same thing when it makes Christianity all about living like Jesus while it marginalizes, emasculates, or just flat out ignores the heart of the gospel. How strange when the ultra-left meets the ultra-right.
Posted by: ben at March 26, 2009 04:25 PMTalk more about this. Do you mean that the legalism seeker churches commit is the “must tithe ten percent” message or that they MUST present a cool message in order to get their message across? That the only way a person could possibly understand what they are “preaching” is by delivering it in a cutesie attention-grabbing format?
