The Politics of an American Girl

On our way to school one morning I had the following conversation with my daughter (who, on her own initiative, braved potential hostility and dressed up like Sarah Palin during spirit week). We suddenly found ourselves in the complex issues of national policy before I was even prepared to give solid answers. It went something like this…..
Suddenly, out of the blue, without the slightest warning that we were about to dive into a conversation on presidential policies, my daughter asked, “Daddy, is Barack Obama going to be our next president?”
Daddy: Hmmmm. More than likely, yes.
7 year-old girl: Will we have to pay more taxes?
Daddy (a bit impressed that she even knew about taxes): Hmmmm. More than likely, yes.
7 year-old girl: Oh, well, I guess that’s not very good.
Daddy: Hmmm. Not really.
7 year-old girl: Daddy, does Barack Obama have any little girls?
Daddy: Yes, he does. In fact, he has two girls and, if I’m right, they are about your age.
7 year-old girl: AWESOME! YES! THAT MEANS WE’RE GOING TO HAVE MORE AMERICAN GIRL STORES!!!
Daddy (chuckling even as he mutters to himself): Good grief!
Then he panics!

How exactly does a red-headed 7 year old dress up as Sarah Palin?
Posted by: Ben at October 27, 2008 01:18 PMI’m not sure, but when she got her new glasses the little girls in her class and at church told her she looked like Sarah Palin. I posted a picture of her on the day she went to school as Sarah Palin. Her mom even put a touch of make-up on! But she left the red hair. Who would want any other color?
