A Must-Hear for the Jonah In You

We may be more Jonahic than we realize. I think all missionaries and pastors ought to hear this kind of message. Tim Bixby (France) preached a powerful exposition of Jonah 4 with penetrating insight for those of us who serve God in a ministry context.

One of the things Tim suggested was that the command to rejoice with those who rejoice may be one of the hardest commands in Scripture, particularly when God is showing His sovereign grace on a ministry or people that we do not approve of. I urge my brothers in ministry to take time to listen to it. After you have listened to it, you may want to hear the whole series. But if you only have time for one, listen to “The Struggles of Missions.” ( If you are a pastor, you may also want to consider having him as a keynote speaker for your missions conference).

Tim brought four messages for our people from the book of Jonah:

1. The Sovereign of Mission (Jonah 1)
2. The Spirit of Missions (Jonah 2)
3. The Success of Missions (Jonah 3)
4. The Struggles of Missions (Jonah 4).

They can all be found here. I think 1, 3, and 4 are the best and that may be because we didn’t give Tim enough time to expound chapter 2. That message is only about 15 minutes long.

We had a great conference. Daniel Arnold (Germany), Dave Deets (Italy), and a single woman missionary to Sweden, Melissa Carlson, were all our guests. Dr. David Hesselgrave also gave a Sunday afternoon lecture on contextualization for our missionaries and interested people in our congregation.

*If you get a chance to listen to the message (or have already heard it), I’d love to hear what you think about it.
