Two Musical Vacations in One Week
Yesterday my wife and I went to hear Alon Goldstein perform the 1st and 2nd Beethoven Concertos with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. It struck me sometime during the middle of his powerful performance that the difference between a rock concert and a classical concert is that the rock concert tranforms one thousand attendees into one mindless mass of fans. The classical concert, on the other hand, silences one thousand attendees into one thousand hushed, deep souls. With rock music I have no doubt how everyone is being affected. In the classical concert I am lef with the imponderables of beauty on the soul of man. Every hearer remains a mystery.
I’m not sure why.
This coming Thursday night my wife and I are anticipating more good music from the world-class Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I find that there are few things that totally relax the mind like listening to a great concert. This is going to be a good week.
I wish I could afford to go every week!

Amen, the beauty of classical music moves me to think of the beauty of God. Often it makes me wonder about the beauty of heavenly music as heard without sin.

But, have you ever been to a rock concert?
