They Got Spanked - And they deserved it.

If you only have so much time, skip my drivel and go read Dan Burrell’s thoughts. Once again, the man says exactly what I think about the whole political scene. Excellent article. Read it.

Now for my humble thought:

I think the Republicans got the spanking they deserved last night. And, frankly, I am glad about it (although, FYI, I voted Republican yesterday). I have never entered the polling booth with such a combination of conflicting emotions as I did yesterday.

I am grateful to vote. It could probably be said that the power of the House was decided by less than 3000 votes out of 80 million. In other words, your vote counts.

On the other hand, I have been angry at the arrogant, corrupt, and dishonest Republican leadership. So, even as I was voting I was telling the Lord that I was doing the only thing I knew what to do. In some cases, I felt like I was picking between evils.

(Except for Don Manzullo, Rep. R. IL. I have been pretty happy with that guy.)

Anyway, leaders everywhere should learn a lesson. We serve people. And it is best that we serve people with integrity, clear communication, and sacrifice. The Republican leadership did none of the above and they got the drubbing they earned.

That’s my short take on it.

For the first time, I voted a mixed up ballot: Republican, Democrat, and even the Green party. It’s hard to find honest people to vote for in any party— particularly in the Illinois state parties. Some friends at work, devoted liberal Democrats, are confused by my consistant response to political shifts. I have an opinion, and I vote it, but “God is in control, regardless of which party is in power” and “my happiness doesn’t depend on my political party” are shocking concepts in today’s world, sadly even for conservative Christians.

Heads are rolling. Rumsfeld is gone. I think that probably should have happened earlier. To do it now shows the President knows he’s been taken to the woodshed.

I also had a hard time voting yesterday. I was not excited by the opportunity at all. For IL governor I chose to put my vote where my convictions were rather than where the numbers were. Neither of the top parties got my vote. It was the first time ever I voted outside my registered party. To some my vote may not have counted, but the only Person’s opinion I was worried about was God’s.

I’m not necessarily thrilled with the results, but at the same time, I’m thankful to live in a country where we have the chance to make the results. And no matter who is in office, God moves the hearts of kings.
