Random Thoughts and Sandy Toes

Well, after the 4:25 AM wake-up call that emptied the entire hotel out on to the parking lot, I didn’t think I would get back to sleep. Seems like somebody smoked too close to an alarm… As I was going to sleep, I thought that it was a good thing that I didn’t know who the culprit was or I would have glared at him at first opportunity. Then the thought struck me that I could go down to breakfast early and just glare at everybody. Then I’d be sure to nail the perpetrator. Opted against that for joy in the Lord. Slept.

Well, for those of you griping about not getting a free trip to Florida, you must be aware that we actually did have some work to do. After chapel we spent four hours talking about a conference that is in the makings. It was fascinating to see/hear the differences of perspectives among the four pastors that were there about the current needs of smaller-but-growing churches. It was equally fascinating to see the similarities. Our main job, I think, was just to run our mouths and share our opinions while the realmovers and shakers took notes. Naturally, I’m very reticent about running my mouth or sharing my opinion, but a man must do his duty.

In the afternoon my wife and I snuck away to an uncrowded portion of the beach where we could enjoy water and sun without having to endure a sea of human flesh. It was very nice. The only time it ever got crowded was when a dark, under-water cloud of bait fish came right up to the shore apparantly fleeing shark. I gave into my typical proclivity for getting the most out of life and waded right into the midst of that swarm of fish in order to get the closest view of nature possible until beach patrol came and suggested that only idiots would do that. It was at that point that I decided not to tell them that I was visiting Clearwater Christian College.

I’m thinking mission accomplished. Our morning of meetings was very profitable. I appreciate the notes of encouragement suggesting I blog again. I suppose that now that SI is currently in rehab I might have less competition. . . But truth be known, I have a zillion other things more important than blogging. Blogging, for me, is just one more relaxing opportunity to give people more reasons to misunderstand me, another stress-relieving way of giving people who don’t like me more ammo to use against me. Refreshing.

Bob,

Impressive - Grateful for the hospitality of our host. A great ministry. Going back to Phoenix with an appreciation of CCC that I did not fully have before. We obviously are happy about IBC - but God will not call everyone to Bible College. There are many who need a Christian Liberal Arts College. CCC is a place where I could entrust my (grown) children to.

Appreciative of our new friends in this Tampa metropolis. The Lord has brought a great leadership team here - No question - Dick, Dave, Holly, Bob, Charlotte, and everyone else here are solid.

I had devotions tonight with some of the guys in the dorm - A great time of Scripture, prayer and sharing. A good spirit amongst the students. The Lord is doing a neat thing here. I will be blowing some trumpets about this place when I get back home.

Enjoyed our time together - Fun to be with Greg again. Can you believe Greg and that maple syrup! Did you notice he wore shorts tonight - Wow! - Man I thought my legs were white!

Great meeting the gals - Toni will try and make it next time. Looking forward to seeing you soon - Have a safe trip to Rockford. Give our best to the church family and Global Grace!

Blessings on you my brother - Thanks for your friendship.

Joel

PS - Hey Bob - Maybe we could make a ministry out of this thing - With the heat rising in Phoenix - perhaps next month, we should check out a seminary in….I don’t know….How about Siberia?

Later….
