Persecuted Baptist Pastor
The story of a persecuted believer in Afghanistan is getting much publication. It should. For a collection of related links, see here and here.
The lesser publicized story is about a Reformed Baptist pastor who was just recently released from ten days of imprisonment for the crime of pastoring an “illegal” church. In a recent mailing from the Metropolitan Tabernacle (the famous Charles Spurgeon church), there was included a page-long notice about the plight of Pastor Georgi Viazovski. According to the notice from the Tabernacle this is the first time in twenty years that religious worship has incurred a prison sentence in Belarus. Read this account of the release of Pastor Georgi Viazovski and marvel that this happened only a few days ago. The prison experience was awful. This, along with the story of the persecuted brother in Afghanistan should wake us up to the reality of our unwelcomed status on this sin-cursed globe.
The Metropolitan Tabernacle appealed to its readership to write or call the Ambassador of Belarus in London.

Perhaps I will be able to locate information about American contacts as time permits.
