A Champion’s Promotion

Adrian Rogers lives no more by faith. He is in the presence of the Lord. I admired this man for a number of reasons, but it was his stout, dogged courage to persevere with his convictions that I loved. Though he said some vexing things about the Doctrines of Grace from time to time, there is no doubt that this man was mightily used by God to challenge the liberal elements of the SBC. A champion has died.

Death, be not proud, though some have callèd thee

Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;

For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow

Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

John Donne (1572 -1631)

Bob,

Thanks for taking time out to reflect on Rogers. Even though many of us would not work on the inside of the SBC - I am certainly very grateful for our brothers on the inside that earnestly contended for the faith, once dilevered. It seems to me that humanly speaking there is a conservative and reformed resurgence in part because of the guys like Rogers. Prayeful the ministry there in Memphis will be able to continue forward.

Straight Ahead!

Joel
